{sunny day}

Have you ever lived a gloomy day but inside your heart was smiling? That's pretty much what my day is like. Woke up with the sun all glittery and majestic and little birds flitting around and the day mirrored my mood. All of a sudden though over the course of a couple hours the clouds came in, the birds singing died down and the wind calmed to barren whisper. So what made me so happy? Well, I've been reading this really wonderful book lately called the Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Here's a highly successful New York author/writer who knew that there was something missing in her life. Happiness. It's not that it was lacking but she felt in some way that maybe she wasn't taking full advantage of all the happy moments in her life. The instant I read the excerpt I knew that this was the book for me. I've felt that way for a while now. Knowing that I was happy and had a wonderful life but not quite sure that I was squeezing out all the happiness in every day-to-day experience. Those mundane things, like washing dishes, driving sisters around, or working. Where's the joy in that? Having my hands in warm water (so soothing to me), being able to have quality chat time with my sisters, and networking and gaining friendships at work. Paulianna right? Okay I get that but what's wrong with wanting to have happiness, experiencing more joy when you can and bringing happiness to others in the process? That has been a HUGE goal in my life. To bring simple happiness to others. A smile, hug, reassuring word. Reading this book has really opened my eyes to all the happiness that you can wring out of every situation. Reminds me of that Bible verse in Luke 6:38 that reads..."Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." So true right? People call it karma, I call it doing unto others. Hmmmm... makes a person think doesn't it? :-)
