Back again... with my apologies. Sick again with another cold. I know... blah, sneeze, sniff, and cough. Yuck.
So that made going into this next post a charm actually. Surviving a Northwoods winter with positive thinking. See, here up this far north there is less sunlight during the day. The sun starts really shining at 8:00 and it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. That's a short day, and even harder sometimes when you wake up early to get ready for work and then leave work when it is dark again too. It kind of creates a restlessness in some people.
That said, I enjoy most of what a Northwoods winter brings. Yes it's cold. Bitterly so. Yes the days are short, sadly so. Yes the woods are dead and the springs are quiet and no ships are coming in to the harbor. BUT, we have beautiful shows of the Northern Lights, lovely days spent staring out the window at lovely snowflakes falling and even better, opportunities to cuddle up on the couch with a hot mug of tea, warm cozy socks, and heavy blankets.
I'm a cacooner by nature. That means I love being bundled up, cozy and protected. Or at least that is what it feels like under all those blankets. The lack of sunshine doesn't bother me and I actually like the slower pace of just resting and enjoying not having to run and go and do. I can cook, bake, clean and read. Design and prepare and craft and dream. Winter instead of being a hastle or burden is actually the only time I feel that I give my body the needed rest it deserves (I really have the tendency to over do it some times).
This past weekend proved just that. I baked, cooked and did some cleaning. But I thought I'd share with you some pics around the house. A full tour is coming soon! ;-)
